7 of us gathered in Millthorpe for another walk in this delightful area. We were blessed by warm sunshine, blue skies and an abundance of spring flowers, with fields filled with swathes of yellow dandelion, and woods with carpets of bluebells. Much of the ground was very dry with huge cracks in the earth paths, so John M. who was absent today, would have been OK without his usual wellies for this area. The route took an anticlockwise direction, skirting below Holmesfield Common and Horsleygate, through Unthank, Moorhall and Barlow Grange, before turning north. The meet leader then forgot to count the roads we were meant to be crossing, so leading to an unplanned deviation, which was later admitted to, but caused no problems in route finding and a safe return to our cars, with an approximate total distance of 7 miles. Having visited Foothills the day before, for guidance on the correct use of lecki poles to protect her ageing knees, the meet leader had been informed that using 2 poles correctly on this 4 hour walk, would relieve the total strain on her knees of the equivalent of 30 elephants bearing down on her – what a picture!
Thank you all for your excellent company. Vanda Boyd
