Seven of us gathered in Millthorpe for the start of this 6 mile walk, in somewhat damp and misty weather, which persisted all day, but despite this and the minimal views, the general mood and conversations remained upbeat throughout the walk. After heading uphill towards Cartledge, we peeled off on some sections of new path, then followed obvious tracks across several fields towards the outskirts of Dronfield where we had a coffee stop on the ‘Teletubby’ grassy mounds. Then we headed south through Cowley towards Common Side for our lunch stop overlooking the slightly frozen fishing ponds [where have all those beautiful benches gone?] Some map reading was required to safely navigate more new paths after Barlow Common [thank you Lorna, helping with the map on your phone] and after a short walk along the road, we were back on familiar territory again, through Rumbling Street, a very wet sunken path/stream , two fords [for boot washing if wanted] back to Millthorpe. The area lived up to its reputation for having many attractive and expensive houses, and a lot of mud, but no peacocks or horses were spotted today.
So thank you all for your company, especially some of you who work and are therefore rarely seen on Thursday walks. Vanda Boyd
